Reading Challenges

Grimes Public Library offers the following year-round reading challenges for children and teens. Join us in June and July for Summer Reading!

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Read one thousand books (any book, or the same book over and over) before your child’s first day of Kindergarten to earn free stickers, books, and their picture in Grimes Living! Track your progress with a 1,000 Books folder available at Grimes Public Library.

LevelUP Beginning Reader Challenge

Read 10 books from our READER (beginning reader) collections to earn your own beginning reader book to keep! Track your progress on a LevelUP punchcard available at the library.

Northern Lights Reading Program

Read 20 books and receive a free small 2-topping pizza from Northern Lights in Grimes. For Pre-K through 6th grade. Bookmarks available at the library and must be punched at the youth desk.

America 250 Kids

Celebrate America’s 250th birthday! Read a book on each of 13 American history topics to be entered into a raffle drawing at the end of 2026. Tracking sheets available at the library.
