GPL Is Gearing Up For Summer Reading

Posted on: April 13, 2016 | By: grimes

The Library is working hard to prepare for Summer Reading 2016, and we have planned something for everyone this summer. From the very young to the seasoned veterans, we have a reading program for you! Completing the reading log gives you the chance to win the very best Summer Reading prizes around. Stop in anytime on or after June 1 to pick up a reading log and a calendar of events.

But, summer is so much more than just reading. In honor of the Summer Olympics, our theme this year is about sports, health, and exercise. Get in the game! Exercise your mind: Read! and On your mark, Get Set, Read! are a few of the phrases you will hear around the Library come June.

We have dozens of activities planned this summer to keep you entertained, engaged, and healthy.

For adults, we will have a Master Gardener on hand ready to answer all your gardening questions and make sure your garden is as healthy as can be this year. New this year is a walking book club. Twice a month, patrons will discuss recent reads with guided questions while on a walk. Of course, the Library will continue to offer our monthly favorites: Yoga for You, Bingo, Ask-A-Lawyer and Tech Drop-In.

Our Youth department has a solid lineup this year as well. Look for Diaper Gym, a class for babies, and Fitness Fridays featuring a dance party and bicycle safety. We also have some great community partners coming this summer including Blank Park Zoo, the Science Center of Iowa, Juggling Jeff, and many more! Of course, you can find all of your favorite storytimes and monthly programming at their normal times.

Be sure to bookmark our online calendar to stay up-to-date with all programs and events going on this summer. Some events may require registration, which is now available online!
