Celebrate Literature…Celebrate Iowa

Some people might think that not a lot happens here in Iowa, but the truth is, we have a lot of stories to tell! The Library has a large collection of books that take place in Iowa or were written by Iowa authors—for all ages!

For children, you might try reading Good Night, Iowa or I is for Iowa, Here Lies Linc, The Diary of Sarah Gillespie, or The Luck of the Buttons.

For high schoolers or young adults, check out an Iowa book from our YA collection: The Vast Fields of Ordinary, Rotters, or Grasshopper Jungle: A History.

From our adult fiction collection, check out some of these titles: The Weight of Silence, The Women of Swenson Farm (from an Iowa author who visited GPL’s Book Club!), Lila (2016 All Iowa Reads Selection), What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,  or The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend.

If you’d like an opportunity to meet an Iowa author, why not attend the 2016 Celebration of Literary Arts Festival? Local and national authors will attend for readings and book signings. The event (taking place April 4-6) is hosted by the DMACC campuses but is open and free to the public as well! For more information about this event, click here.

Looking for other ways to learn more about Iowa? Join the Library on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 in welcoming former founding editor-in-chief of Midwest Living magazine and IPTV Host, Dan Kaercher, as he presents “Iowa’s Hidden Treasures.” Mr. Kaercher has traveled extensively throughout Iowa, as well as across the Midwest during his 40+ years career. He would like to share with you the numerous interesting attractions and getaways that are hidden away right here in Iowa.This is a must-attend event before you plan your summer weekends away!
